ECE continued its new tradition of celebrating the different cultures of its student body with a celebration of Diwali on November 13. The event included Indian music, dance, cuisine, and other Diwali traditions.

Diwali is an ancient Hindu festival that signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings in the communities and countries where it is observed.

Attendees could receive henna tattoos, decorate their own candles to celebrate the tradition of lights, and enjoy Indian cuisine. Entertainment included two sets by a local Indian dance troupe, and a live performance of traditional music.

A large crowd turned out for the show, including many Indian graduate students.

“I would like to thank the entire team for the wonderful event,” said EE Master’s student Pranshu Maan. “It indeed made me feel at home.”

As home to the largest graduate population in the College and hundreds of international students, ECE hopes to continue this tradition in the future as well as explore ways to recognize and celebrate other multicultural holidays.
